Even though the offense failed the defense in Sunday?s 34-17 loss to the Denver Broncos by giving away points and failing to convert on third downs, safety Ed Reed took the Ravens? third consecutive loss hard.
Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning only threw for 204 yards, with 51 coming on his only TD throw to Eric Decker in the third quarter for a 24-3 lead.?Ravens QB Joe Flacco had two turnovers that turned into 10 points as his team went down 17-0 at the half thanks to a 98-yard interception return by Chris Harris.?
The Ravens, who have lost three games in a row with two coming at home, started 0-for-9 on third downs and didn?t get a first down until 21 minutes had elapsed in the game.
Still, said Reed: ?I?m embarrassed as a player to come out and perform the way we have. You have weeks like that. We?re not the only team that lost today. We still have two more games but as a Ravens Nation, as a player, I?m embarrassed for the whole city."
A victory would?ve clinched the AFC North for the Ravens (9-5), who have to wait until the New York Giants come to M&T Bank Stadium next week. The Giants were shut out 34-0 by the Atlanta Falcons.
Reed credited the kicking unit of punter Sam Koch, long snapper Morgan Cox and kicker Justin Tucker. And that was it.
?We didn?t play a great game,? Reed said. ?The best three players today that only came to work were Morgan, Sam and Tucker.?
