ITHACA, N.Y. ? The Cornell gymnastics team, fresh off a season-best score at the 2013 Ivy Classic, will look to continue its upward climb when it heads to Piscataway, N.J. for a quad meet at Rutgers on Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m. The Big Red will compete against the host Scarlet Knights, as well as Brockport and William & Mary, at Livingston Recreation Center.
The Big Red has elevated its team score each of the last three weekends, including a strong 193.025 in finishing second at the Ivy Classic in New Haven, Conn. Junior Lexi Schupp won an Ivy Classic title on bars with a 9.825, her first career title, to lead five top five individual finishers. Senior McKenna Archer placed third on vault and (9.775) and fourth on beam (9.800). The Big Red went over 48.000 on vault (48.450), floor (48.225), bars (48.175) and beam (48.175) in a consistently strong effort overall. ?Its 193.025 still wasn't enough to surpass Brown, who posted a 193.925. Penn (191.600) and Yale (191.100) were both more than a point behind the Big Red to round out the four-team field.
Cornell hosted Rutgers in a four-team meet a year ago, finishing behind the Scarlet Knights (193.175-191.275). The last time Cornell saw William & Mary was the 2012 ECAC Championships, with the Big Red outscoring the Tribe 192.350-191.925. The Big Red outscored Brockport in a tri-meet last year with a 189.900-187.575.
